Hellmouth Senior Pup Class in full swing... SO PROUD OF THESE GUYS! They aren't acting like little hellspawn at all!

(Well, they have the CAPACITY not to act like hellspawn anyway) a couple dogs couldnt make it today but check out Obi, Westley and Enzo acing shit 💪

My Senior Pup class is for dogs 5-12 months to delve into foundations of training and working amongst distractions ❤️💀

[Dog Parks bad. Structured social good.]

I mean... you've watched murder doco's before right?
It's always the guy with no friends, can't read social cues, who everyone describes as "a bit odd"....... PLSSS see Tyler Muto's latest FB/blog post on socialisation - I'll link it in stories shortly, it's 🤌
.
I get sick of trainers trying to act like socialising dogs is "beneath them" or "not necessary" or even, amusingly, "easy" even though they only ever show their own dogs interacting with each other 😂 - fact of the matter is, there are certain things that dogs learn ONLY from actual interaction. Not via observation.
.
This is something I teach clients daily - and I teach puppies in my puppy class from the get go;
.
🩷 If you're too much for another dog they might tell you to back off, or they might end the play. It's not a threat that you need to react to, it's not a big thing. You can work through it. (See: resilience building). It's also something you should notice, and learn how to give space.
.
🩷 If you're nervous about a dog entering your space, go to your owner, they will protect you. Not only that - you don't HAVE to meet dogs if you don't want to! Don't put yourself in a situation you won't be comfortable in (and yes, we CAN teach this from puppy-hood).
.
Is too much socialisation, or too much unstructured socialisation (eg. dog parks) bad? Yes - it can be. Too much of anything is bad - as someone who's flown too close to the sun many-a-time I can confirm that overindulgence rarely ends well 🫠
.
But, there simply is nothing else, other than experience with social, safe dogs, that teaches social cues, bite inhibition and the push-pull of good, conflict-free socialisation, i'll die on that hill 🏔️ if it were built-in, I wouldn't be as busy as I am.
